ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are off to a tremendous start in the 2024 class, and it looks like they plan to load up on some of the top prospects in the peach state.

The Bulldogs only signed five players from the peach state in the 2023 class, but there’s a chance they could double that number in next year’s class.

Georgia already has four in-state commitments in the 2024 class and sit in an excellent spot for quite a few others at the moment.

One in-state defensive back that has quickly climbed up Georgia’s board is impressive athlete Demello Jones‍ out of Swainsboro.

One of the top two-way prospects in South Georgia, Jones is one of the hottest prospects in Georgia right now and saw his recruitment take off in January, adding offers from Ole Miss, Miami, Florida, Ohio State, and Tennessee.

The Bulldogs offered thee 6-foot-1 180-pounder in mid-November and recently told Dawg Post that he’s still hearing a good amount from the current back-to-back national champions.

“UGA is special to me because they are a power house school in my state”, Jones said. “They are showing a lot of love. Coach Fran Brown and I already have that strong connection and he is just a good person outside of coaching.”

As a junior last year, the speedy playmaker rushed 122 times for the 13-1 Swainsboro Tigers for 1,279 yards (10.5 ypc) and 20 touchdowns on the ground. He also proved to be a weapon in the passing game, catching 14 passes for 384 yards and 7 more touchdowns.

As good as he is offensively with the ball in his hands, Jones confirmed to Dawg Post that the Bulldogs are recruiting him to play in the secondary. Jones made 44 tackles last year defensively with six more pass deflections.

The Bulldogs already have three defensive backs on the commit list in the 2024 class in 5-star CB Ellis Robinson IV‍, 4-star safety Peyton Woodyard‍, and 4-star safety Jaylen Heyward‍. They’re looking to load up in the secondary once again, and it appears Jones is one of their remaining defensive back targets.

He’s an electric prospect who can score from anywhere on the field, but his quickness, natural cover skills, toughness, and ball skills make him one of the top DB prospects in Georgia.

Dawg Post ranks Jones as the No. 21 overall prospect in Georgia for the 2024 class.
