ATHENS - The Super Bowl is a few days away, and Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator Todd Monken continues to interview with NFL teams about their openings.

Monken has interviewed with Tampa Bay once and Baltimore twice about their openings at offensive coordinator. The Super Bowl, which is Sunday between Kansas City and Philadelphia, is usually the final step before coaching staffs for all 32 teams are filled out.

Coming into the 2023 offseason a slew of teams have had openings at offensive coordinator. New England (Bill O’Brien), New York Jets (Nathaniel Hackett), Los Angeles Rams (Matt LaFleur), Dallas (Brian Schottenheimer), Los Angeles Chargers (Kellen Moore), Arizona (head coach Kliff Kingsbury called plays for the Cards last season), Indianapolis (no head coach), Washington (vacant), Baltimore (vacant), Tampa Bay (vacant) and Tennessee (vacant) are all going through changes at the spot.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum said Monday that if Monken continues to interview that means Kirby Smart is OK with him leaving the program.

"If Todd Monken is going to keep interviewing with the Tampa Bay Bucs, Kirby Smart is probably content to let him go," Finebaum said on his Monday show. “Don't forget Georgia has Bobo in the wings. If you want to go to the NFL - go to the NFL. There aren't that many college assistant coaches who are worth $3 million a year.”

A year ago Monken received a 60% raise from UGA after the Dawgs’ 2021 national title. Monken earns more than $2 million a year at Georgia - making him one of the most well-paid coaches in college football. Monken was awarded that raise after a meeting in May. He is under contract with the Bulldogs through the 2024 season.

Friday the NFL Network reported that Monken was “Monken is one of a handful of OC candidates to get a second interview in Baltimore.” At least two other candidates for the job have emerged as well in Dave Canales and Justin Outten.

The Ravens’ quarterback situation seems fluid due to the status of franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson, who won the league’s Most Valuable Player award in 2019. Jackson and Baltimore have not come terms on a new contract, and the future of the quarterback in Baltimore seems unclear.
