ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart are getting ready to take on Sonny Dykes and the TCU Horned Frogs in the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship Game in Los Angeles. On Tuesday, Kirby gave a few updates on injured Bulldogs.
It is unclear if the Bulldogs will return all of the players who were banged up going into or coming out of the Ohio State game, but Kirby was hopeful Tuesday about that possibly.
“We're hopeful to get all those guys back,” Kirby said when specifically asked about UGA TE Darnell Washington, LB Chaz Chambliss and starting OL Warren McClendon.
McClendon didn’t play during the contest. Chambliss was hurt in the second half of the game, but returned to celebrate with his teammates. Washington wore a walking boot and was given crutches, but celebrated the game-winning missed field goal by throwing his hands up and walking onto the field without aid.

UGA WR Ladd McConkey scored a critical two-point conversion late in the game, but didn’t appear to be 100% against Ohio State.
"Ladd looked good, looked good in warmups, and was able to go and play. We're hoping he's even better this week,” Kirby said. “But we had to have somebody ready. And you can imagine over 28 days of preparation there's a lot of days that Arian was repping and doing things because Ladd wasn't able to. As we got closer and closer to the game, Ladd was doing more and more. It was a balance between the two. We've had a musical chairs, and most people do because people have injuries at wide receiver positions but between AD, Marcus, there's been a lot there. And I think B-Mac and Coach Monken have done a tremendous job of slicing and dicing those roles.”
