ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart showed up to his post-game press conference looking a little different today.

Instead of his trademark UGA polo and visor, he dressed in a white collared shirt, red tie, and black button-sweater—a look synonymous with the late Vince Dooley.

Smart was paying tribute to Dooley - the late former head coach who passed earlier this season.

“Honor and dignity that he represented this place with,” Kirby said after the 37-14 win over Georgia Tech Saturday. “He did it with class and dignity. He always represented the University of Georgia the right way.”

The win over Georgia Tech was the Bulldogs’ 12th of the season. It is the second year in a row the Dawgs have finished the regular season undefeated. No. 1 Georgia will play No. 5 LSU in the 2022 SEC Championship Game in Atlanta next Saturday.

Kirby said he would have worn it during Clean Old Fashioned hate, but he said he didn’t want to distract from Georgia’s senior day ceremonies.

“I was going to wear it during the game, and I chickened out. I asked Derek Dooley to wear it. His family said they would be honored.” - Kirby. “But I didn’t want to distract from senior day.”

Dooley led the Bulldogs for 25 years, winning the 1980 National Championship over Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.
