ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs will host in-state rival Georgia Tech for the first time since the 2018 season. The game is set to be broadcast at noon on ESPN.
The announcement by ESPN on Monday was expected. The Bulldogs have played Georiga Tech at noon in Athens in every contest between the two rivals since the 2012 game. The 2010 game was at night, and the 2020 game was not played because of the SEC's decision to play a conference-only schedule.
Skipping the 2020 game means the Jackets have not played in Athens since No. 5 Georgia's 45-21 blowout win over Tech in 2018.
The rivalry, known as Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate, has been dominated by Georgia since Vince Dooley took over at Georgia in the 1960s. Tech has only beaten Georgia ten times since 1978. Georgia has won 17 of the last 20 contests. The average score of the rivalry since Kirby Smart has arrived at Georgia is 41-12 in favor of the Bulldogs.

In 2023 Kirby will be facing the third head coach at Tech since he arrived in 2016. Tech fired Geoff (not Jeff) Collins in the middle of the 2022 season. Collins never coached against the Dawgs Between the Hedges.
Georgia’s all-time record on ESPN is 60-34-1. It leads the series 69-39-5. Meanwhile, UGA's foe for the SEC Championship Game will have to travel on the final Saturday of the season. LSU will play at night game in College Station against Jimbo Fisher's falling-apart Texas A&M Aggies. LSU survived at Arkansas over the weekend and hosts UAB this weekend in Baton Rouge.
