ATHENS - The University of Georgia, known across the college football world as “Running Back University”, has one dynamic back on the way in 2024 running back, Tovani Mizell.
He’s just a junior, so Bulldog fans have another year and a half before they see him wearing red and black, but he’s already a guy Georgia fans should be excited about. While Kirby Smart and Dell McGee are still searching for a second back in the 2023 class, it’s clear they have one of the best in the country on board for the talented 2024 class.
Mizell, one of the top overall prospects in Maryland out of powerhouse DeMatha, ran wild on defenses all season and helped lead the Stags to a 10-1 record as they try to push for a state championship.
On film, Mizell shows plenty of speed as he’s posted a 11.37 in the 100-meter, but his ability to slash through defenses and elude defenders down the field is what makes him standout from other backs in the 2024 class. At 6-foot-0 195-pound, Mizell has plenty of muscle on his frame, so he knows how to break tackles on a consistent basis. His quick feet, balance, and change of direction make him a nightmare to corral in the open field, allowing him to zig-zag down the field for big gains.
He’s a natural runner, slips through tackles, and shows good burst up the field. He’s also played against some of the top teams in Maryland and had no problem producing out of the backfield each week.
He can get tough yards up the middle, and has enough quickness to get to the outside and down the sidelines. He follows his blocks, runs behind his pads, and rarely gets brought down by the first defender. The Georgia Bulldogs recruit the best of the best at running back, and Mizell is clearly one of the best in the D.C area and throughout the country for the 2024 class.
Mizell is one of Georgia’s six current commitments in the 2024 class. He’s ranked in the 247 Composite Rankings as the No. 3 RB prospect, the No. 1 player in Maryland, and the No. 66 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.
