BRADENTON, FL - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are rolling on the recruiting trail right now and have their sights set on the No. 1 recruiting class come December.
Smart and his staff went heavy on defense in the current 2023 cycle, and one of their first commitments came from then in-state pass rusher, Gabriel Harris.
When first Harris committed, he was playing for Thomas County Central High School in South Georgia. He tried to transfer to Valdosta for his senior season, but was ruled ineligible by the GHSA. From there, Harris went down to Bradenton, Florida to play his final season at IMG Academy (FL).
He came in right before the season started, but Harris hasn’t missed a beat. He was always a raw athlete with impressive length, but since Dawg Post first saw him in-person two years ago, Harris has transformed into one of the best pass-rushers across the South.

At 6-foot-4 and 250-pounds, Harris has put on plenty of muscle over the last two years, but the explosiveness is still there. He’s lighting quick off the ball, uses his hands well to get off blocks, and attacks the ball-carrier. He still has a lean frame and doesn’t look like he’s around the 250-pound mark.
He’s a guy who can get after the quarterback, and that’s exactly what Georgia needs more of. Realistically, great teams bring in at least two dominant pass-rushers in each class. That’s how you build depth and consistently attack the quarterback every season.
With Harris on board, he gives Kirby Smart’s future defense an excellent option off the edge. Of course, Harris won’t be the only impact pass-rusher that Georgia signs in the 2023 class.
Another big name to know is 5-star EDGE defender and pass-rushing specialist, Samuel M'Pemba, who will be taking his official visit to Georgia this upcoming weekend. He’s seen the Bulldogs play in-person multiple times this year and has established a strong bond with not only members of the Georgia staff, but multiple commitments as well.
As for Harris, he’s ranked in the On3 Consensus rankings as the No. 111 prospect in the country and the No. 11 DL prospect in the entire 2023 class.
