JACKSONVILLE - At first it looked like a possible blowout for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs who took a commanding 28-3 lead into the half against the Florida Gators today. After giving up 17 unanswered points to put Florida back in the game in the 3rd quarter, Georgia then put their foot on the gas and left Jacksonville with an impressive 42-20 victory.
Georgia played really well at times. REALLY well. Then the 3rd quarter happened. Bulldog penalties gave Florida life and the Gators found the end-zone early in the 3rd quarter. After a Kenny McIntosh fumble, the Gators kicked a field goal to cut into the lead. After a Stetson Bennett INT and a long Richardson touchdown pass, The Gators were back in the ballgame and down just 8.
That’s when Georgia turned it on and said “enough is enough”.
Listen, Georgia can play a lot better. They should’ve run Florida out of the building, although they did end up winning the game by 22 points. The turned the ball over three times, gave up some plays in the passing game, and dropped some passes on offense. It was far from perfect all the way around.
There’s a lot they need to clean up, and they shot themselves in the foot throughout the 3rd quarter.
Still, the numbers say Georgia whooped Florida’s ass.
The Bulldogs had 500 yards of total offense. It’s hard to complain about that. Stetson Bennett looked sharp at times, but he also made his share of poor passes. He threw it around all night though, going 19-37 for 316 yards and 2 touchdowns along with two INTs.
It wasn’t his best day, but he was plenty good enough to secure the victory.
We said in Final Feelings that Brock Bowers was going to have a big day and that’s exactly what happened. Arguably the top player in college football, Bowers caught five passes for 154 yards and one touchdown.
The Bulldogs had no problem running the football, rushing for 240 yards and four touchdowns. Daijun Edwards was the team’s leading rushers with 12 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Kenny McIntosh carried it 16 times for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Georgia’s defense played fast all game long. Anthony Richardson did everything he could, and made a nice play here and there, but Georgia’s defense still looked strong while giving up 20 points.
Chris Smith played his ass off in the secondary. He played fast and tackled well all game long. Javon Bullard is another defensive back who impressed today.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson was all over the field. He’s getting better and better and played one hell of a game today. Defensive lineman Jalen Carter didn’t play a ton, but when he did, he made a major impact.
Nolan Smith dinged up his shoulder early in the contest but it didn’t appear to be a serious injury.
Overall, Georgia’s defense gave up over 330 yards. That’s not ideal, but not the end of the world, either. They stopped Florida’s rushing attack and put them in a position where they had to throw the ball throughout the second half.
They played fine, but they need to play better next week when the Vols come to town.
