ATHENS - Don’t look now, but Georgia Bulldog assistant coach Todd Hartley has his eyes on another 5-star target.
Hartley, one of the best recruiters in college football right now, already had two impressive tight end commitments on board in four-stars Pearce Spurlin and Lawson Luckie. Those two already give Hartley an outstanding duo in the 2023 class, but sources say Hartley is still hard after 5-star Duce Robinson, an uber-athletic pass-catcher out of Pinnacle (AZ) with plenty of size at 6-foot-6 225-pounds.
Sources in Arizona confirmed to Dawg Post that Hartley was out in Phoenix on Friday night to watch Robinson play in person with the Bulldogs on their BYE week.
Robinson is ranked as the No. 1 TE prospect in America, and one of his high school coaches, Pinnacle offensive coordinator Matt Hanshaw, said Robinson made a play Friday night that reminded him of former Atlanta Falcons superstar, Julio Jones.
“On Friday night he (Robinson) took a 5-yard shallow route 71 yards for a TD”, Hanshaw told Dawg Post. “Reminded me of Julio Jones running away from the Packers in 2016 for the Falcons.”

There’s a reason why Robinson is ranked No. 1 at the tight end position. He has tremendous ball skills, plays like a receiver, and should be a major red-zone weapon at the next level.
“Duce is an incredible football player but he’s a better human being”, Hanshaw added. “Duce is the best teammate and friend to everyone on the team. He can align anywhere in the formation. He makes every catch. Over the middle, one handed, out wide go routes. There isn’t a route he can’t run and a ball he won’t catch. His speed is what separates him. As big as Duce is, he shouldn’t be able to run and separate from defenses like he can.”
It’s easy to see why Hartley is still pushing for Robinson, even with two impactful pass-catchers on the commit list. His size, ball skills, speed for his size, and maturity make him a special player with easy 5-star talent.
Through his first seven games of the season, Robinson has caught 39 passes for 838 yards and 8 touchdowns. That’s an outstanding 21.5 yards per reception and about 120 yards per game. He’s a BIG deal, and why many still feel the Trojans are the team to beat, you can never count out Todd Hartley. Robinson took a visit to Athens in late September when the Bulldogs hosted Kent State, so there’s obviously some heavy interest in Georgia from his side.
If Todd Hartley can go out and sign Duce Robinson out of Arizona, this might be the best TE class we’ve seen across college football in a long, long time.
