ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart gave an update on All-American candidate Jalen Carter on Monday.
Carter was injured in the first half of the No. 2 Bulldogs’ 26-22 win at Missouri on Saturday.
Kirby said Monday Carter will be out a week or two with an MCL sprain. The head coach was hopeful that was the case immediately after the game. That means Carter will miss the showdown with Auburn, and could miss the Vanderbilt game as well.
“I talked to the official during the play. He felt comfortable about what the play was. We talked about it before the game. They have a lot of backside cuts. Auburn, a lot of teams use the same methods. I'm hopeful that we can keep our players safe, do what is within the limits of the game and the rules, but that's not for me to decide, Kirby said. "Jalen is going to be a week or two. Not sure, it's MCL like expected. We don't know how long it's going to be, but doesn't look good for this week.”

There was no penalty flag thrown on the play. SEC Network replays showed two Missouri offensive linemen engaged with Carter at the same time - one high, and one low - which is a 15-yard chop-block infraction.
Carter left the game and did not return. The Bulldogs rallied from ten points down in the fourth quarter to win the game. It was the largest second-half comeback for the Bulldogs in SEC play since the 2007 season.
Carter is listed by ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. as the No. 3 overall prospect for the 2023 NFL Draft. Carter was recovering from an ankle injury heading into the Missouri game. He has five tackles this season with seven quarterback hurries and one pass breakup.
