ATHENS - If you don’t know about Parkview (GA) freshman Zelus Hicks, now is the time to get to know him.
A dynamic safety prospect with length and ball skills, Hicks is starting for the impressive Parkview Panthers as a freshman and has made a big impact this fall in his first season.
The 6-foot-2 170-pound defensive back has picked off two passes and took one of them 98-yards back for a touchdown against North Gwinnett. He’s a true playmaking safety and earned his first offer this weekend.
Of course, it came from the in-state Georgia Bulldogs during his visit this weekend.
“When I got the offer I was so surprised and it makes me even more hungry to work harder and perfect my craft”, Hicks said. “UGA is special to me because it is such a well rounded program with the facilities and the coaching is elite. Of course, bring from Georgia makes this one special, too.”
While Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs had some trouble early on with Kent State, they still impressed Hicks with their 39-22 victory.
“My favorite part was probably the entrance when the players came out”, Hicks added. “The energy in the crowd was crazy and I liked the fog they had. And I spoke to almost the whole staff today all of them had great attitudes.”
Hicks has been a name to know for a couple of months now and it’s hard to believe that he didn’t earn his first offer until now. Now that the Bulldogs have offered, look for more schools to jump on board soon. His length, instincts, ball skills, and playmaking ability for his age makes him one of the state’s top freshmen right now. Look for the Bulldogs to be towards the top of his recruitment throughout the entire process moving forward.
