ATHENS - More than six million viewers watched as Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs clotheslined the Oregon Ducks in Atlanta over the weekend.
It was the third most-watched game of college football’s opening weekend behind Notre Dame-Ohio State (10.5M) and FSU-LSU (7.6M). ESPN said in a release that the network had a huge opening weekend.
“Across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU, 17 games accounted for nearly 82 percent of all college football viewing this weekend across linear networks,” the company said.

All three of the weekend’s biggest draws were on ABC - a thing to watch as the SEC gets ready to transition to that network in the coming years. Georgia’s win on Saturday was ABC’s most-watched 3:30 opening weekend game since 2017.
Meanwhile, the game was the 21st time Georgia has registered a game with more than six million viewers under Kirby Smart. The actual number, 6,199,000, means Georgia’s big win isn’t even in the top 20 most-watched games the program has played since 2016.
Georgia and Alabama were the most-watched programs of 2021. The Tide will have a huge audience on FOX Saturday when they travel to Texas for a Noon kickoff. Georgia will play on SEC Network this weekend at 4 PM vs. Samford.
