ATHENS - Kirby Smart‘s Georgia Bulldogs enter their first SEC game of the season as significant favorites to win on the road.

Georgia is listed as a 20.5-point favorite to beat Shane Beamer’s Gamecocks. The Bulldogs have been favored over the Cocks 26 of the last 30 meetings between the two schools. The current line continues a trend of the Dawgs being favored by at least 20 points.

The line suggests that Georgia has a massive 97% chance of winning the contest. Since 2010 Georgia has been favored by at least 20 points 46 times. Georgia is 45-1 in those games. The only loss came in 2019 when Will Muschamp’s Gamecocks shocked UGA in overtime.

That game is Kirby’s only loss to South Carolina since his hiring in 2016.

South Carolina enters the game unranked and coming off of a 44-30 loss at Arkansas. The Cocks managed only 40 yards rushing against the Hogs. Georgia is allowing only 79.5 yards rushing right now. The Bulldogs have only allowed three points this season in two games. Georgia has allowed only two touchdowns in its previous 16 quarters of football.

Meanwhile, the Gamecocks are the No. 24 team in the country in passing offense. South Carolina’s back-to-back performances scoring at least 30 points is the best offensive output for the program since beating Vanderbilt and Auburn in 2020.

The early September game between these two has always featured steamy weather. This game might be an outlier for the two teams, however. Temperatures are only expected to get into the low 80s for the game. Georgia’s last September game in Columbia was extremely hot - 92 degrees, which is the hottest game Georgia has played since 2010.

Since 2010, seven of Georgia’s hottest 21 games have been against South Carolina with an average temperature of 86 degrees.
