ATHENS - Kirby Smart is getting his No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs ready for their season opener against the No. 11 Oregon Ducks, and Wednesday, his star running back Kenny McIntosh‍.

Well, he may not be a “star” just yet, but now that McIntosh is the lead back, a big game against Oregon could put him officially on the college football map.

Of course, Georgia fans know all about McIntosh. He’s been a backup until this year, so casual college football fans may not realize what Georgia fans have known for a couple of years now.

That Kenny McIntosh is a fantastic running back.

The 6-foot-1 210-pound back out of Ft. Lauderdale has made plenty of big runs off the bench and has been a reliable weapon in the passing game as well.

With Zamir White and James Cook gone, it’s McIntosh’s turn to lead “Running Back University”.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment”, McIntosh told reporters on Wednesday. “I feel like I’ve played a lot of big games already, and I know I wasn’t like the league back going out there like Zamir and Cook, but I still went out and played and did what I had to do, so I’ve been waiting on this moment my whole life.”

McIntosh has always played the underdog role. He wasn’t the highest-ranked running back out of high school, he’s fought hard for playing time, and to this day, there are people who may have their doubts

“I’m kind of like the underdog if you want to say it like that”, McIntosh added. So, I’ve really been prepared for this moment to come so for me to be here in this moment, thank God for me to finally get here and get the opportunity to just go out there and showcase my talent.”

In his first year starting, McIntosh knows it’s more than just getting the most touches on game-day. He knows it’s his turn to step up as a leader as well.

“Just being that leader, playing that role being the older guy in the room, me and Kendall had this conversation a few times like we remember being the young guys in the room and stuff like that. I’ve wanted to be in this position.”

Last season, the former four-star back carried the ball 58 times for 328 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 22 passes for 242 yards and two more touchdowns. He’ll get more opportunities and touches this fall, and has a chance to show the entire country what he can do as a lead back on Saturday night.
