ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs lost two key running backs from last year’s team in Zamir White and James Cook, but the running back room in Athens is still expected to be one of college football’s best this fall.
Running backs coach Dell McGee signed two strong, powerful backs in the 2022 class, and one of them will have Georgia fans thinking back to Bulldog legend, Nick Chubb.
That would be incoming four-star, Branson Robinson.
A tough, tackle-breaking back out of Canton, Mississippi, Robinson stands at 5-foot-10 and 220-pounds of pure muscle. Robinson is built like Zeus, and has the same type of weight-room addiction that former back Nick Chubb had.
“Branson, the way he’s built, he’s built like a brick house”, running backs coach Dell McGee told reporters. “He doesn’t have a neck. He’s very similarly built in the shoulders like one of my old teammates, Takeo Spikes. Nick Chubb was a good-looking student-athlete as well. Branson is more than just muscle. He’s very dedicated. He works hard in the weight room obviously, and in strength and conditioning. He’s a sharp young man with a lot of promise this year.”

Germantown head coach Bruce Brady told Dawg Post he knew Branson was going to be a special back early on.
““All the coaches already on staff said he had dominated in middle school and were really excited about him”, Brady said. “After one summer workout, I knew Branson was already a special talent. As a 14 year old he was one of the most physically developed players I’d ever seen. He started as a 9th grader and played well in an offense that utilized a two-back system.”
“Branson’s work ethic has always been off the chart”, Brady added. “Without question he is the hardest working player I have ever coached. As a junior, he started getting all these offers but the same ole Branson kept showing up every day just trying to get better and help his team win. God has blessed him with physical ability, but he also has the drive to get better every single day, and he is going to push others around him to give their best, too.”
Nagging injuries kept Robinson from having a big senior season, but sources say he’s come to Athens with a chip on his shoulder. Three backs are ahead of Robinson on the depth chart, so it won’t be easy to earn carries at first, but it’s clear the Georgia staff feels great about what he brings to the table.
Bulldog offensive coordinator Todd Monken praised both of his freshman running backs when he spoke with reporters on Thursday.
“They're both (Andrew Paul and Branson Robinson) are going to be tremendous players”, Monken said. “They're working awfully hard at their craft.”
Robinson was ranked by the 247 Composite as the No. 4 RB prospect in the 2022 class and the No. 62 overall prospect in the country.
