ATHENS - It’s no secret that it’s been a rough start for Dell McGee and the Georgia Bulldogs on the recruiting trail as it relates to the running back position.

The Bulldogs missed on in-state UGA legacy Justice Haynes last month, who committed to Alabama instead of Georgia. The Crimson Tide also landed a commitment from 5-star Richard Young, another Bulldog target in the 2023 class.

While they’re still looking for their running back in the current cycle, they’re sitting in an excellent position for some of the best in the 2024 class, one of them being four-star, Tovani Mizell‍.

The dynamic four-star back out of DeMatha Catholic (MD) was in Athens for a visit over the weekend and gave Dawg Post an update.

“They are ‘RBU’ and that's what makes them special!!” Mizel told Dawg Post. “My favorite part of the visit was sitting down and talking with Coach Kirby Smart & the rest of the staff.”

The University of Georgia, the school commonly referred to as “RBU”, has produced high-caliber running backs as well as any program in college football.

Assistant coach Dell McGee made sure the four-star knew all about the big Georgia tradition during his visit.

“They told me about the rich tradition and history of the RB's in their football program and took me back to the 80's starting with Herschel Walker”, Mizell told Dawg Post. “What stands out most about Coach McGee is his attention to detail for the RB position.”

As a prospect, Mizell shows breakaway speed along with impressive balance and footwork. He’s agile, changes directions well, and knows how to break tackles down the field. He’s a threat to score anytime he has the ball and can make plays in a number of different ways. He’s a reliable receiver out of the backfield and one of the more versatile backs across the country in the 2024 class.

As a junior last fall for Cardinal Newman (FL), Mizell rushed for 616 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also caught 34 passes for 481 yards and 6 more touchdowns.

The four-star is ranked as the No. 5 RB prospect in the 2024 class and the No. 107 overall prospect according to the 247 Composite Rankings.
