ATHENS - He was one of the most talented receivers to ever play for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Even while missing almost the entire 2021 season, former 5-star George Pickens left Athens as one of the best receivers in school history. Flipping from Auburn to Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs on Signing Day in 2019 already made him a fan favorite early on, but Pickens quickly showed his 5-star talent as a freshman, and ended his Bulldog career as a national champion.

The talent has always been there, and while he barely played last fall, that didn’t matter to the Pittsburgh Steelers who selected Pickens in the 2nd round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the No. 52 overall pick.

The Steelers are one of the best organizations in the league when it comes to developing receivers, and many believe that their selection of Pickens was one of the biggest steals of the draft.

Now that practices have started, many around the league have started to notice the big-play ability and insane catch radius that Pickens brings to the table. He’s already had one practice reception go viral, and one of his Steeler teammates, wide receiver, Chase Claypool, thinks Pickens is going to be the “best rookie receiver in the NFL”

That’s not something you normally hear from a veteran when a young rookie is turning heads early on, but George Pickens isn’t your average receiver. The former Bulldog star hauled in 90 career passes at Georgia for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns. Only 5 of those receptions came during last year’s national championship season, but he did lead the team in receiving in the national championship game with his big 52-yard reception against the Crimson Tide in the 1st-half.

Georgia fans will always remember his acrobatic catches, and that time he squashed a Yellow Jacket back in 2019. Now, it’s the Steeler fanbase who will get to enjoy his 5-star talent in Pittsburgh. If he continues to turn heads heading into the 2022 season, don’t be surprised if he has one of the best seasons of any rookie wideout this fall.

With Pickens on board, the Steelers have +950 odds to win the AFC North according to FanDuel.
