One of Kirby Smart’s top defenders from last year’s 2021 national championship team, Walker was drafted No. 1 overall in last April’s draft after dominating the NFL combine this spring. At 6-foot-5 272-pounds, Walker ran a blazing 4.51 in the 40-yard dash and put up great numbers in the vertical, broad jump, and the cone drill, giving one of the best combine performances of the year.
A former 5-star prospect out of Thomaston and Upson Lee high school, Walker was one of the top prospects in the country out of high school, and chose the Bulldogs over Clemson, Alabama, among others. A basketball standout as well, Walker showed tremendous athleticism for his size and it translated to the football field.
During his three-year career in Athens, Walker made a big impact as a freshman and was one of the best defender’s on last year’s defense, one that many people think was one of the best in college football history.
As a junior last fall, Walker made 37 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, 6 sacks, and an incredible 32 QB hurries. He made play after play throughout his career and always came up with a big play when the Bulldogs needed one.
The 2022 NFL Draft was a special one for Kirby Smart’s program as he saw 5 defenders selected in the first round, with Walker being the first one selected. Although his teammates are pranking him at the moment, they’re going to need him in a big way this upcoming season.
Walker left his mark in Athens, and he’s expected to do the same for the Jaguars moving forward.
