ATLANTA - Arkansas Razorbacks coach Sam Pittman and Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Nolan Smith embraced at SEC Media Days on Wednesday - hugging in-between sessions they were headed to at the event.

Pittman recruited and coached Smith in 2019 at Georgia, and it is clear from their exchange that the two are still fond of one another.

“I love you coach,” Smith told Pittman. “I miss you everyday.”

Pittman’s comment’s to Smith drew laughter from the rising senior, and powerful backslaps from the duo. On Wednesday Pittman said he was not surprised with the success Smith and company had at Georgia last year. His No. 8 Razorbacks felt the sting of a visit to Sanford Stadium - suffering a 37-0 loss to No. 2 Georgia with ESPN’s Gameday in town.

The game was a rare back-to-back fight between the Hogs and Dawgs. In 2020, Smith and the Dawgs traveled to Fayetteville for the opening game of the season. That year - riddled with COVID protocols and restrictions - was Pittman’s first after coaching several seasons under Kirby Smart at Georgia.

Since that time Pittman has taken the Hogs from a 3-7 season to a 9-4 mark last year - taking out No. 15 Texas, No. 7 Texas A&M, No. 17 Mississippi State and Penn State in the Outback Bowl along the way.

The Bulldogs wrapped up their first national title since 1980 - beating No. 1 Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Georgia will face Oregon in the season opener in Atlanta. The Hogs host Cincinnati, who joined the Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff a season ago.
