ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon landed a commitment from one of his top 2023 targets Tuesday night - four-star WR Tyler Williams‍.

Williams picked Georgia over Miami, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Clemson.

A major target for Kirby Smart and McCledon, Williams is one of the top receivers in Florida. The 6-foot-3, 218-pounder took his official visit to Georgia the weekend of June 10 and sources say the Bulldogs took a firm lead in his recruitment after that visit.

“For me, relationships and communication were key and I feel like Georgia did that better than anyone in my recruitment”, Williams told Dawg Post. “Coach McClendon knows what it takes to get me to the next level because he’s experienced it before. Georgia checks everything I really want in a college. And that consists of academics, on the feild, and life after football”, Williams added.

So what will Williams bring to Athens?

A unique blend of size, speed, and natural athleticism.

He may not be a perfect prospect, but he has all the tools that McClendon needs to turn him into an impact receiver sooner than later. Physically, he already has SEC-level size and length, and he’s a big threat down the field.

The Lakeland (FL) standout is a smooth runner with excellent hands as well. He’s great after the catch. Williams can help in the return game, and his best football is still way ahead of him. He has a knack for getting behind defenses, and he can make defenders miss down the field. If he can continue to improve his route running and overall development, he has a chance to have a special career in Athens.

A two-sport star who also dominates on the basketball court, Williams didn’t catch a ton of passes last year, but he made them all count. He had 21 catches in 2021 for 616 yards and 11 touchdowns, meaning he scored on more than 50% of his receptions. He’s also a physical blocker on the outside which will give him an opportunity to see the field earlier.

Williams is ranked in the 247 Composite Rankings as the No. 24 WR prospect in the country and the No. 148 overall prospect in the 2023 class.
