ATHENS - Georgia co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann has once again shown why he’s one of the top recruiters in college football.

After signing three excellent inside linebackers in the 2022 class, Schumann, with the help of head coach Kirby Smart, has landed one of the nation’s best 2023 linebackers in four-star Troy Bowles‍.

The Jesuit (FL) standout is ranked as the No. 2 inside linebacker in the country and was high on Schumann’s board from the very beginning. After a successful official visit to Georgia the weekend of June 10, sources say the Bulldogs took a commanding lead for Bowles, who committed to Georgia today over Oklahoma, Ohio State, among others.

What will Bowles bring to Athens?

Speed, physicality, and natural instincts.

The son of Tamp Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles, the younger Bowles is a smart, instinctive linebacker who knows how to deliver a big hit. The high four-star prospect and 6-foot-1 205-pounder made 105 tackles last season along with 2 INTs, 2 forced fumbles, 6 sacks, and two touchdowns as a junior last fall.

Against the run, Bowles reads the play well from the start and knows how to strike the ball carrier. If he’s not blocked, he’s going to leave a bruise when he makes the tackle. He’s also often too quick and athletic for lineman to block, so he’s always free to attack. He’s one of the very best linebackers for a reason, and it’s because he can do just about everything you can ask out of a middle linebacker. He can get after the quarterback, he’s excellent on the blitz, and he can get sideline to sideline if the running back tries to get to the edge. He’s also great in the passing game and shows soft, reliable hands in coverage.

There’s a lot to like about his game, and we know he’s only going to improve over time as he works with Bulldog assistant Glenn Schumann.

So where do the Bulldogs go from here?

There are still plenty of EDGE and outside linebacker targets, but as for middle linebacker, the Bulldogs now have three of the very best on the commit list in 4-stars CJ Allen‍ and Raylen Wilson‍.‍ With Bowles now on board, the Bulldogs will easily sign the best inside linebacker haul in the country.

As for Bowles, he’s ranked in the 247 Composite Rankings as the No. 2 linebacker prospect, the No. 10 prospect in Florida, and the No, 44 overall prospect in the country for the 2023 class.

He also gives Georgia their 14th commitment so far in the 2023 class.
