ATHENS - We’re only three days into June, and it’s already been a GIANT month on the recruiting trail for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.
They’ll be hosting some of the nation’s top prospects on official visits this weekend, and earlier this week the staff put on a mega-camp where they hosted some top 2024 and 2025 prospects from across the country.
One of the biggest visitors in town was five-star safety, Peyton Woodyard. The elite 2024 defender out of St. John Bosco (CA) has held a Bulldog offer for exactly one year now and was in the Classic City with his family to see what Kirby Smart’s program has to offer.
It’s safe to say Woodyard left Athens impressed.
“I received my offer almost a year ago when I first visited Georgia”, Woodyard told Dawg Post. “When Coach Fran Brown arrived at Georgia, he and the staff confirmed my original offer and liked what they saw on tape.”
What makes Georgia special to the big 6-foot-2 190-pound defensive back?
“Georgia is a special place because their coaching staff is top notch and the facilities were amazing as well”, Woodyard added. “I was also impressed with the academics, specifically the business program and the ‘Georgia Way’.”
What exactly is the “Georgia Way”?
“At Georgia they prepare you for life outside of football, such as internships and networking with their vast alumni base”, Woodyard added. “I was really impressed with all the resources that they have available for all the athletes. Coach Smart also emphasized the importance of academics and having a plan once football is over, which is the essence of the Georgia Way.”
As a prospect, Woodyard a rangy defensive back who knows how to run down the ball carrier. He’s instinctive against the run and does a nice job of closing before the runner gets to the outside. He’s a natural in coverage and has a long frame that allows him to break up passes. He has the size the staff covets and was really impressive as a sophomore last year for one of the top high school programs in America.
Woodyard made 62 tackles last fall and holds offers from Georgia, Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State, among others.
