ATHENS - After a giant recruiting weekend last weekend in Athens, Kirby Smart and his staff will be hosting even more five-stars once again this upcoming weekend.

There will be plenty of wide receiver targets in town, and this is where new receivers coach Bryan McClendon does his best work.

One top target coming to Athens this weekend is five-star Carnell Tate‍. The Chicago native now at IMG Academy is the No. 3 wide receiver prospect in the country, and the Bulldogs are already in his “Top 5” along with Tennessee, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Alabama.

The Bulldogs offered the elite wide-out 13 months ago and Tate told Dawg Post at the time it was an offer he was waiting on.

“The Georgia offer was one the offers I was waiting on”, Tate told Dawg Post. “UGA is a dream school. It was a dream come TRUE. I was shocked and excited. UGA is always a school I would like to attend. I know a lot about the UGA receiver history. From A.J. Green, to Mecole Hardman, to Riley Ridley, to George Pickens, Jermaine Burton, and Marcus Rosemy now. UGA knows how to produce great players at the wideout position.”

Those quotes may have come over a year ago, but Tate’s love for Georgia hasn’t wavered. The Bulldogs are in his top group, and if there’s one coach out there you’d want to recruit him, Bryan McClendon might be the guy.

As a prospect, Tate bring a little bit of everything to the table. He has SEC size already at 6-foot-2 185-pounds, he’s a natural route-runner, shows great footwork, and he’s a long-strider, allowing him to consistently get behind defenses down the field. He possesses reliable hands, and knows how to win the all-important jump-ball. He’s a red-zone threat and one of the more polished receivers in the South.

He’s a five-star for a reason, and he’s the type of receiver who can thrive in Georgia’s style of offense.

Tate is ranked as the No. 3 wide receiver prospect, the No. 7 prospect in Florida, and the No. 21 overall prospect in the country for the 2023 class.
