ATHENS - The amazing thing about the Georgia Bulldogs headed to the NFL is that they’ve not celebrated the national title yet.
“Hopefully I will be done with a lot of the pre-draft stuff to let it set in a little bit,” Nekobe Dean said Wednesday of celebrating the win over Alabama. “After the national championship it was great, but it was like: ‘I have to start getting ready for the combine.’ It hasn’t really - I’ve not really sat back and thought about it.”
Dean wasn’t the only one with so much going on that he had a hard time marking the achievement.
“I was moving so fast after all of it - being a senior and moving on and training here and going there,” Jamaree Salyer said at UGA’s Pro Day. “It felt like I just left to go train. Now we are here staring down the Draft at this point. It’s been a long ride, but a quick ride.”
Several players indicated at Georgia’s Pro Day on Wednesday that they’ve not been able to fully celebrate the national championship win over Alabama because they went right into training for the NFL Combine, and the rest of the process that goes into the immediate aftermath of the college season for seniors.
Derion Kendrick said he couldn’t remember if he slept the night after the national title game, but said “there really wasn’t a reason to go to sleep.”
“After the win we had a couple of days to rest our legs and bodies,” Kendrick said, “Then we were right back into training. No, we’ve really not celebrated it.”
Georgia players expect to get national championship rings in a few weeks during Georgia’s annual G Day game, which is a few weeks before the NFL Draft.
“I know if we get the rings on G Day it is probably going to re-hit me,” Dean said.
“I think now that I am back here it has hit home,” Salyer said of being at UGA. “You get to see the trophy in the locker room. I left a legacy here, and I am proud of that.”
