ATHENS - Spring practice has arrived, and Dawg Post has confirmed that multiple targets will be in the Classic City today to check on the 2021 national champions and take in Athens for a visit.
There’s a loaded group of visitors invading Athens this weekend, but there will be plenty of talent in town today as well.
Here are a few prospects who told Dawg Post that they’ll be in town today...
Jalen Hale - 2023 WR - Longview (TX)
This is a MASSIVE visitor as Hale is. a 5-star prospect out of Texas who thinks highly of the Georgia program. The long, athletic 6-foot-2 175-pounder is a big-play waiting to happen due to his body control, quickness, ball skills, and ability to take off after the catch. He’s twitchy, can change directions well, and has a nose for the end-zone. The Bulldogs need to land an elite receiver or two in the 2023 class, and Hale is one to keep a close eye on. As a junior last fall. Hale made 50 receptions for 1,154 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Donovan Johnson - 2025 RB - Calvary Day (GA)
Looking for the next great back in Georgia? Johnson might be your guy. The Savannah native ran through defenses very week as a freshman last fall, and many feel he’s an easy 5-star candidate in the 2025 class. He has a chance to be one of the top running backs across the country soon, and the Bulldogs have a chance to put themselves in a great position early on. The big, bruising back at 6-foot-1 190-pounds rushed 170 times last season for 1,336 yards (7.9 ypc) and 10 touchdowns. Not bad for a freshman...
Jalon Kilgore - 2023 DB - Putnam County (GA)
One of the more underrated DBs across Georgia, Kilgore is a playmaking athlete who can dominate at both defensive back and wide receiver. He was extremely productive on both sides of the ball last season, making 37 receptions for 921 yards (25 ypc) and 11 touchdowns on offense. Defensively, the big 6-foot-2 195-pound safety made 88 tackles and caused four fumbles. He looks the part physically, and his recruitment is in the middle of taking off. We’ll see if the Bulldogs pull the trigger on an offer today.
Rico Walker - 2023 EDGE - Hickory (NC)
A fast-rising EDGE defender from North Carolina, Walker is a two-way standout who can catch passes as a tight end, but his potential at the next level is on the defensive line. He’s physically gifted at 6-foot-3 235-pounds and knows how to get after the passer, getting to the QB seven times last fall. He’ll be an EDGE target to know about moving forward will a successful visit today.
Micah Welch - 2024 RB - Baldwin
One of the hottest running back prospects in the peach state, Welch is starting to see his recruitment take off after a big sophomore season last fall where he rushed for just under 1,000 yards and 19 touchdowns on just 140 carries. A few D1 schools have pulled the trigger on an offer recently, so we’ll see if the Bulldogs do the same.
