ATHENS - The final coach for Kirby Smart’s 2022 Georgia Bulldogs staff has been hired.
Rutgers DB coach Fran Brown will coach that spot for the Bulldogs. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Brown is replacing Jahmile Addae, who left for Miami earlier this year.
Kirby, Brown and the Bulldogs will start spring practice in a few weeks. Getting the entire coaching staff in place was a critical step in the Bulldogs defending their 2021 national championship. Fan Duel lists the Dawgs at +350 to win the national title this fall.
Brown just completed his second season at Rutgers. His first season saw a noticeable jump in turnovers as the Scarlet Knights gained 19 turnovers in 2020, most in a season since 2012, and 10 more than forced the previous season. That included at least one takeaway in eight games, multiple in four games and at least four two times. Helped the team establish a +5 turnover margin, its best in a Big Ten season.
Four members of Rutgers; secondary were earned All-Big Ten honors of some sort during the season.
Brown spent time at Temple and Baylor before heading to Rutgers. He has worked in the secondary his entire career.
