ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia staff will have until Saturday to host recruits on campus before the contact period ends on Sunday.
The Bulldogs will be hosting some of their top 2023 targets and Dawg Post confirmed that one of them is five-star running back, Rueben Owens.
Owens, or, the “Black Unicorn”, is ranked as the No.2 RB prospect in the country, the No.5 prospect in Texas, and the No.27 overall prospect in the country.
The five-star from El Campo (TX) was in Athens for a visit back in late July where he was able to speak with the offensive staff.
“I really enjoyed my time at UGA”, Owens told Dawg Post. “I spent a lot of time with Coach McGee who broke down my game. From hudl to 7v7, he knew so much about me and gave me some pointers to get better. I got a chance to speak with all of the coaches, really. They were very welcoming. I like Coach Smart and what he stands for. The facility upgrade was impressive and the consistency UGA has with putting RBs in the league stands out.”
“Coach McGee is my guy”, Owens added. “I really like his passion and how much he cares for his players. It’s more than football with him. I feel he can help me become a great man and a better football player. What makes him such a good recruiter is his consistency with building a relationship. Coach McGee offered me in the 9th grade & we’ve stayed in touch since.”
Owens was back in Athens last fall to witness the Bulldogs defeat South Carolina 40-13 during a night game in Sanford Stadium.
Now, on the final day before the contact period ends, Owens plans to be back in Athens.
He’s a major target for Dell McGee and the Georgia staff as they plan on signing two elite backs for the 2023 class. Five-star Richard Young plans to visit Alabama this weekend and four-star target Justice Haynes plans on visiting Clemson.
