CUMMING - Georgia tight ends coach Todd Hartley continues to dominate on the recruiting trail.
After signing his top two targets in the last two recruiting cycles in Darnell Washington and Brock Bowers, Hartley landed his top target again in the 2022 class in four-star Oscar Delp.
The 6-foot-5 225-pounder from West Forsyth (GA) chose the Bulldogs over South Carolina, Clemson and Michigan.
Dawg Post has reported for the last 11 months that the Bulldogs were going to be tough to beat for Delp, and today he made his commitment public.
“The biggest reason why I chose Georgia was because it was really that one school that gave me that true home feeling and that never went away,” Delp told Dawg Post. “The staff was consistent every time I went there and watching them play just solidified my decision more and more. I really like what they’re doing with Brock Bowers and the other tight ends right now. I think I’m going to fit perfectly in that offense.”
So what is Georgia getting in Delp?
They’re getting an elite pass-catcher who can be a true difference maker in the passing game. He has a great frame and runs like a deer. He's an excellent route runner for his size and knows how to create separation from the defender. He has big, reliable hands and can be a major weapon in the redzone.
Delp is also excellent after the catch. He picks up yards in a hurry and can be tough to bring down by just one defender. He’s an alpha on the field and plays with passion. He wants the ball, and if he makes a play, he’s going to bring some excitement.
You just don’t see many guys his size who can run and change directions the way Delp does. He already looks like an SEC tight end from a physical standpoint and can hold his own on the edge in the run game. He’s a physical blocker and he’s getting stronger and stronger by the day. His biggest strength is his ability to catch the ball, and he’s going to have a lot of opportunities to do so in Athens.
Where do the Bulldogs go from here?
Delp is the only tight end the Bulldogs will sign in the 2022 class. He becomes Georgia's 18th commitment in this current class.
Hartley plans to sign two tight ends in the 2023 class and already has one on board in four-star Pearce Spurlin. He's also heavily recruiting four-star Lawson Luckie out of Norcross (GA).
Delp is ranked the No.6 player in Georgia according to Dawg Post. He’s also ranked as the No.3 tight end prospect in the country and the No.97 prospect in the country.
