ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs fans will have to wait until Sunday to find out what time the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry will kickoff at Auburn on October 9, 2021.
That’s because CBS and ESPN have elected to exercise a six-day hold on the game. The outcome of Georgia’s game with No. 8 Arkansas on Saturday (ESPN, Noon) and Auburn’s primetime fight with LSU (ESPN, 9 PM) will help determine if Georgia-Auburn will be at Noon on ESPN or 3:30 PM on CBS in two Saturdays.
Auburn’s near loss to Georgia State over the weekend likely forced this move from the networks. CBS traditionally picks UGA-Auburn as a 3:30 PM game, but the game has moved forward in the schedule - it no longer sits in its traditional mid-November slot on the schedule.
That, coupled with the Arkansas at Ole Miss that falls on the same day means that CBS will have to pick between two games that could feature ranked teams. CBS has the right, contractually, to choose which game it will broadcast at 3:30 according to multiple sources with direct understanding of the picking process.
ESPN will then televise the non-CBS-selected game for broadcast at Noon.
