Charlotte - It wasn’t the flashiest win of all time, but Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs, led by their outstanding defense, were able to hold off the No.3 Clemson Tigers for an impressive 10-3 win to start the 2021 season.
After a slow first quarter, the Bulldogs finally got on the board after a massive 74-yard Pick-6 by veteran defensive back Chris Smith. The offense couldn’t get much going against Clemson’s tough defense, especially through the air, but they made just enough plays in the end to secure the victory.
One of Georgia’s biggest traditions over the last few years, lighting up whatever stadium they play in with their phones before the 4th quarter, has been something Bulldog fans look forward to all game.
Even in a 50/50 split between Georgia and Clemson fans at Bank of America Stadium, the Bulldog faithful showed up and lit up the stadium like they do every game. It’s quite the scene at night, and it was a sight to remember for Georgia fans who were in attendance.
In the end, the Georgia Bulldogs "finished the drill”. This was a big game for Kirby Smart and the Georgia program and they grinded out a tough win. They played “old school" ball and came out on top.
They won't be able to win every game like this, but they were able to beat No.3 Clemson tonight, and that's all that matters.
It wasn't the flashiest win, but the Georgia Bulldogs got the job done tonight in front of the entire college football world.
The Bulldogs defense finished the game with 7 sacks and held the Clemson offense to just 180 total yards.
Georgia will host UAB next weekend in Sanford Stadium at 3:30.
