ATHENS - Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs will open the season in a prime time affair against Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers on ABC.

The broadcast for the game will start at 7:30 on ABC - meaning it is in the prime spot for the opening weekend of college football. Alabama will play Miami on ABC at 3:30 to lead into the Bulldogs’ clash with the Tigers.

The announcement was made Tuesday. ESPN also announced a slew of other games including:

Sept. 5     7:30 p.m. ABC, Notre Dame at Florida State
Sept. 6       8:00 p.m. ESPN, Louisville vs. Ole Miss
Sept. 11     7:00 p.m. ESPN, Texas at Arkansas
Sept. 11     7:30 p.m. ABC, Washington at Michigan
Sept. 18     7:30 p.m. ABC, Auburn at Penn State

Oct. 9     TBD. TDB, Notre Dame at Virginia Tech
Oct. 30     TBD. TDB, Florida State at Clemson

It was anticipated that Georgia’s game with Clemson would be the feature game of the weekend. Both the Tigers and Bulldogs are expected to be top-five ranked teams coming into the 2021 season. The last time the two schools met Georgia beat the Tigers 45-21 in Athens in 2014. A year before that the Tigers won a 38-35 contest in Clemson in a prime-time affair.

The last time Georgia and Clemson played in prime time that game pulled in 8.1 million viewers - making it the 16th-most watched football game of the 2013 college football season. The Bulldogs and Tigers have only faced one another four times this century with Georgia holding a 3-1 edge in the series in that time.
