ATHENS - Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs got another defensive back transfer. This time from Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide

Brandon Turnage posted on social media late Friday night that he was committed to Georgia. Tykee Smith and William Poole, both defensive backs at UGA, both commented their support for the move. Nakobe Dean, a Mississippi native like Turnage, also expressed his happiness about the transfer. As did several current and former Bama players.

Turnage was considered the consensus No. 11 overall cornerback in the 2019 recruiting cycle, and considered the No. 102 overall prospect in the country. He will arrive in Athens after redshirting at Alabama in 2019 and playing in three games in 2020 - LSU, Arkansas and Mississippi State.

Turnage originally picked Alabama over Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss. Turnage will be listed as a redshirt sophomore for the Bulldogs this fall. It is unclear if he will be eligible to play in 2021 due to all of the moving parts associated with transfer rules in the NCAA as well as the SEC.

The Bulldogs lost six defensive backs from the 2020 season, which includes the transfer of Tyrique Stevenson to Miami. Kirby Smart's program still has a couple of spots to fill in order to get to the NCAA-mandated 85 limit for football programs.

Georgia is set to open the 2021 season in Charlotte against the Clemson Tigers on September 4. Kickoff time for that game has not been announced yet.
