Bulldogs Lose 2022 Commitment: What It Means

The Bulldogs lost a commitment today as 2022 linebacker Donovan Westmoreland‍ has decided to flip from Georgia to South Carolina.

Dawg Post members saw this coming weeks ago when we reported that communication was lacking between the Georgia staff and the Griffin (GA) standout.

“I don’t know when I’m taking my official visit to Georgia”, Westmoreland told Dawg Post last month. “They haven’t been in contact with me for a minute so I don’t know right now.”

So this isn’t surprising news. It’s a big pickup for the Gamecocks, but this isn’t a major loss for the Bulldogs. Georgia already has three other linebackers on the commit list and have their sights set on a few others as well.

The Bulldogs have four-star OLB Darris Smith committed along with four-star ILB C.J Washington‍ and four-star Jalon Walker‍ who could play multiple positions. So they’re still off to a great start at linebacker.

Who else are the Bulldogs targeting?

We’ll see if the staff continues to push for another linebacker, but overall, this opens up a spot for another defensive back or defensive lineman.

The Bulldogs offered four-star DE Aaron Wilson‍ of St. Frances Academy (MD) this week and are still in the running for other defensive linemen including DE Shemar Stewart‍, DT Travis Shaw‍, DT Walter Nolen‍, DE Mykel Williams‍, Enai White‍, among others.

Tray Scott is off to a tremendous start on the defensive line, but if he continues to recruit at this level, the Bulldogs could be on their way to signing their best defensive line class in school history.

This spot could also go towards an extra defensive back. The Bulldogs have three DBs committed already in 5-star Deyon Bouie‍, 5-star Malaki Starks‍, and 4-star Marquis Groves-Killebrew‍. They’re also pushing for 5-star DB Kamari Wilson‍, 5-star Daylen Everette‍, and 4-star Trequon Fegans‍.

So Westmoreland’s flip basically opens up a spot for another defender. ILB Shawn Murphy‍ is another option at linebacker, but the Bulldogs would be just fine there with the three already on board.
