ATHENS - It looks like there will be a coaching chance on Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs staff this off season.

ESPN is reporting that Charlton Warren is likely the next defensive coordinator at Indiana.

“Sources: #Indiana is set to hire #Georgia defensive backs coach Charlton Warren as its next defensive coordinator. Warren has coordinator experience at Air Force (2008 to 2013) and has coached DBs at North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida and Nebraska. Replaces Kane Wommack.”

Warren came to UGA before the 2019 season from Florida, where he was on the staff during Dan Mullen’s first season in Gainesville.

The Hoosiers just finished one of the program’s most successful seasons in recent history. Indiana ended the season as the No. 12 team in the AP poll after a loss to Ole Miss in the Outback Bowl. Kane Wommack, Indiana’s most recent defensive coordinator left that program to take over as head coach at South Alabama.

The move means the Bulldogs could have a very different secondary in 2021 with the departure of not only Warren, but also key players Eric Stokes, Richard Leconte and Tyson Campbell. The news comes only two days after Kirby Smart retained Dan Lanning as defensive coordinator. Lanning was being pursued by new Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, who left Alabama for the Texas gig after helping the Tide explode to the national title.

It remains to be seen where Kirby Smart will go with his hire to replace Warren. Stay tuned to Dawg Post for more on this breaking news.
