One of the nation’s top prospects is back on the market, and that’s big news for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

That prospect is five-star QB Gunner Stockton‍ of Rabun County (GA). The 6-foot-1 220-pound QB committed to Will Muschamp and Mike Bobo back in August, but has now decided to open up his recruitment under new head coach Shane Beamer.

Gamecocks offensive coordinator Mike Bobo was a big reason why the Gamecocks landed Stockton’s commitment before the season, and with Bobo now at Auburn, look for the Tigers to come hard after the Georgia native moving forward.

Dawg Post has reported for weeks now that Stockton is still a major target for the Georgia staff and their top QB target in the 2021 class. Stockton narrowed down his recruitment to a final two earlier this year that included both Georgia and South Carolina. Of course Stockton would eventually commit to South Carolina.

Stockton has been incredibly productive for Rabun County and has started since his freshman season. As a junior this past fall, Stockton proved why he’s a five-star, throwing for 3,128 yards and 45 touchdowns. He has elite arm talent and is incredibly accurate throwing the football. He’s technically sound and has elite pocket presence with the ability to escape and make plays with his feet. On the ground, Stockton rushed 191 times for 1,581 yards and 26 TDs.

Stockton will give Georgia a skillset that they haven’t had since Quincy Carter. Stockton is a true playmaker who can win games both with his arms and his legs. He has the “it” factor and has been tough to stop for ever defense he went up against in 2020.

Stockton is ranked as the No.2 player in Georgia for the 2022 class according to Dawg Post. He’s also ranked as the No.1 dual-threat QB prospect and the No.27 overall prospect in the country.
