ATHENS - The Georgia Bulldogs got more good news for their 2021 season as running back James Cook return to Kirby Smart’s program at UGA.

Cook has been dealing with the untimely death of his father. He missed the No. 9 Bulldogs’ win over No. 8 Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl. Cook made a post on social media Tuesday saying: “Run it back” - indicating that he will return to the Dawgs in 2021.

The move is a major boost for the Bulldogs. Cook’s return with JT Daniels will provide the Bulldogs serious firepower this fall. The two have grown close, Daniels said after the Peach Bowl

“James and I have been very close since I got here,” Daniels said. “I remember when I posted my commitment to Georgia, Cook hit me right away. I got in contact with him. He was one of the first people I buddied up with. He's been like a brother to me since I got here. As soon as I heard, I hit him, made sure he's doing good. He's a leader, he's a worker. You never hear him complain. He's always doing the right thing. When something bad happens to someone good like that, it sits with you. It was something that us as a team, we all thought about it. You saw Coach Dell with the 4 jersey. That's how much Cook means to us, how much we're there for him when he needs it. We know he'd be there for us if we need him.”

The former four-star athlete from Miami signed with Georgia in the 2018 recruiting class that was ranked No.1 in the nation. After having multiple backs in front of him for his first two years in Athens, Cook is having his best year as a Bulldog in 2020, rushing 45 times for 303 yards and three touchdowns in the regular season. The 5-foot-11 190-pounder has also caught 16 passes for 225 yards and two more touchdowns.
