BREAKING: 5-star LB Xavian Sorey Signs With Georgia Over Florida

The Georgia Bulldogs landed one of their biggest target in the entire 2021 class.

5-star LB Xavian Sorey‍ has committed and will sign with Georgia over Florida and Alabama today. The elite 6-foot-3 215-pound linebacker has been a MAJOR Bulldog target from the very beginning, so this is a huge win for Kirby Smart, Dan Lanning, Glenn Schumann, and the rest of the Georgia staff.

On his Jr. Day visit to Athens back in January, Xavian “The Barber” Sorey gave Georgia inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann a hair-cut right outside Sanford Stadium.

Remember the video the Georgia football program released last week about looking for a new barber?

That video was designed for their 5-star linebacker target. He and Smael Mondon were both major targets for Glenn Schumann this cycle, and the young assistant proved once again why he’s one of the top recruiters not on the Georgia staff, but in the entire country.

So what is Georgia getting in Sorey?

Athleticism and toughness.

The small-town star from Graceville (FL) is a two-sport standout who dominates on the basketball court almost as well as he dominates on the gridiron. He has a great frame and he’s a physical player who loves contact.

Sorey did a little bit of everything for Graveville as a junior, playing linebacker, H-back, tight end, running back, and even knows how to cover.

The athleticism he has for someone his size stands out the most. He runs well, he knows how to tackle, he shows great ball skills, he has impressive balance, and looked like a man amongst boys as a junior. He just does so many things well. As a defender, he’s explosive off the edge and consistently finds a way to get into the backfield. His length gives him the ability to get off blocks, and when he finds the ball carrier, he knows how to finish.

He can be a weapon on offense too on the edge as a blocker. He has good hands in the passing game, but his toughness and physicality made him a force on the edge offensively.

He’ll play linebacker in Athens, and he’ll be able to play both inside or outside when he gets on campus. He’s a reliable pass rusher from the outside, but he has the speed and toughness to stay inside and stuff the run game. He’s strong enough to hold the edge on the outside against the run, but he’ll have to continue adding muscle there to handle the bigger, athletic edge defenders that he’ll see in the SEC. It’s tough to find a true weakness in his game, and that’s why the nation’s top programs have made him a priority in this class.

Sorey becomes Georgia’s 4th linebacker signee in this class, joining 5-star LB Smael Mondon‍, 4-star LB Chaz Chambliss‍, and 4-star Jamon Dumas-Johnson‍.

Sorey is ranked in the Composite as the No.1 OLB prospect, the No.6 prospect in Florida, and the No.20 overall prospect in America for the 2021 class.
