TUSCALOOSA - Georgia coach Kirby Smart said he expects to coach against Alabama's Nick Saban tonight.
"We pretty much know with two negatives already I feel like he's going to be on the sideline," Kirby told ESPN's College Gameday Saturday morning. "And I am happy he is."
Saban's positive test for COVID-19 has been the story of the week in college football. But the Alabama head coach, according to releases and various reports, has now twice tested negative for COVID-19. That means if Saban gets one more negative test before before kickoff he will be permitted to coach Saturday night.
ESPN is reporting that Alabama expects the third test to be confirmed by lunchtime today.
The game, set to take place between No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia, should be the biggest college football game of the season in terms of top teams as well as viewership. Georgia had Alabama have combined to have massive audiences two of the last three times they have played.
Alabama is considered a 5-point favorite to win the game. The Bulldogs and Tide are set to kickoff after 8 PM EST on CBS.
