UGA's Kirby Smart Tries to Line up Momentum in Recruiting
So here we are at the end of of July, and you can smell football in the air. Things starting to get back to normal all across the country. And Georgia's Kirby Smart is trying to kick start recruiting.
Normally the Bulldogs pick up a ton of momentum on the recruiting trail in the summer when the staff is able to host some of their top targets and their families. More often than not, Kirby Smart and his crew are rewarded with a slew of commitments right before the football season kicks off.
This year has been different. Without having the ability to host prospects on campus, the Bulldogs haven’t been able to land verbal commitments from some of their top 2021 targets. It’s not the end of the world. Kirby’s got a plan, and he has a chance to pick up momentum once again right before the football season.
So here’s what I THINK is going to happen on the recruiting trail....
First off, I THINK James Williams was playing the “recruiting game” with the Georgia staff. At least, that’s what one source told Dawg Post this week. I THINK “trolling” is what the cool kids call it.
“They (UGA) never thought James (Williams) was all in”, one source said. “They actually thought he was Bama bound but then he had UM and UGA. To me looked like he was trolling UGA.”
Sources say Williams was singing a different tune to current Bulldog commit, four-star safety, David Daniel, when the two spent time together two weeks ago at the Johns Creek MVP Camp. Sources say Bulldog cornerbacks coach Charlton Warren called up Daniel and told him to head over to the camp and spend time with Williams who was in town. Sources say Georgia, and Daniel, felt good about where the Bulldogs stood with Williams at that time, but the 5-star safety committed to the Hurricanes the very next day.

Staying with the defeensive back group, I THINK Georgia is the team trending for four-star cornerback, Nyland Green. I also THINK he’s Georgia’s top cornerback target at this time. He is a BIG deal, and this would be an excellent pickup for the Bulldogs... if they can hold off Auburn. Clemson had momentum with Green late in the spring, but I started to feel better and better about Georgia’s chances after speaking with Nyland in person in June. I got more of a Georgia/Auburn vibe with Green, who said he “couldn’t remember” the last time he was at Clemson for a visit.
I THINK the Bulldogs are in a better spot for four-star safety, Terrion Arnold, than many realize. The Tallahassee native’s recruitment is fairly open, but sources say the Bulldogs have really turned up the heat with him and have made him a top priority in this class. With James Williams off the board, Arnold has become even more important for Smart and his staff.
I THINK Amarius Mims is a very strong Georgia lean. Dawg Post has said for close to a year and half now that the Bulldogs would be tough to beat for the 5-star from Bleckley County. He originally planned to make a commitment on his birthday in October, then he moved it up to August, and now he’s back to committing in October. Whenever he decides to pull the trigger, Dawg Post feels very good about Georgia’s chances, as we have for a long time now.
I THINK Georgia is the team to beat for four-star linebacker, Prince Kollie. The Bulldogs have two current linebacker commitments with room for at least two more. Sources continue to tell Dawg Post that the Auburn Tigers have the most momentum this second with five-star Smael Mondon, and Kollie admitted to Dawg Post this week that he’s still in “constant communication” with the Georgia staff.
