BREAKING: 4-star LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson Has Committed to Georgia
The Bulldogs got some much needed good news on the recruiting trail today as they picked up a commitment from four-star linebacker, Jamon Dumas-Johnson.
The thick 6-foot-1 235-pounder out of St. Frances (MD) chose Georgia over Maryland, Florida, Tennessee, among others. The Bulldogs offered Dumas-Johnson back on January 8th, and sources say they really stepped up their recruitment of him over the last few months.
So what are the Bulldogs getting in Jamon Dumas-Johnson?
They’re getting a sure tackler. This guy knows how to strike the ball carrier and is fundamentally sound when tackling. He does a nice job of tripping up guys and tackling them around the feet when he needs too, but he also wraps up correctly when tackling up high.
He shows great instincts in the run game and consistently gets off blocks. He moves well for a guy 235-pounds, and while he’ll get a strong look at inside linebacker, he’s heavy enough to play some outside linebacker as well to help set the edge.
His film doesn’t blow you away and he doesn’t have elite sideline-to-sideline speed, but he’s got some athleticism to his game and his instincts really help him out. He shows a good motor and was a highly productive linebacker last year for a strong St. Frances defense that helped the team go 11-1 last season.
Overall, he’s a sure tackler with good size who is also fundamentally sound.
So, where do the Bulldogs go from here?
The Bulldogs now have two linebacker commitments in the 2021 class with room for at least two more. Georgia’s two commitments, Chaz Chambliss and now Jamon Dumas-Johnson, are very similar players. They are both thick, strong guys who can play middle linebacker, but have the versatility to play on the outside based on the offensive formation and what the Bulldogs are looking to do defensively.
The Bulldogs could still use some help at middle-linebacker since the Bulldogs have some help on the outside with Elijah Jeudy. Now, all eyes focus on five-star Smael Mondon, who included the Bulldogs in his top group last week. He’s another guy who could play multiple linebacker positions, but his athleticism and speed should serve him well playing in the middle.
Another four-star linebacker to keep an eye on is David Crockett (TN) athlete, Prince Kollie. He’s a little on the lighter side, but Kollie is a tremendous athlete who still hasn’t come close to his full position at linebacker.
Dumas Johnson becomes Georgia’s 10th commitment in the 2021 class. He’s ranked as the No.14 outside linebacker prospect, the No.11 prospect in Maryland, and the No.214 overall prospect in the 2021 class.
