ATHENS - As it turns out Nick Chubb is one of the most important players in school history.

That might not seem like a crazy statement after his career at UGA ended - it might not have been a crazy statement after the 2014 Belk Bowl when he exploded on Louisville. But the middle of Chubb’s career - 2015 and 2016 - were forgettable for unfortunate reasons.

In 2015 the star running back left the Tennessee game with a gruesome knee injury that sidelined him the rest of that season. Georgia ended the year by firing its head coach as Chubb rehabbed to get ready for a return.

2016 was just as frustrating. He enter the season by running past North Carolina in the Georgia Dome. He ended it by losing to Georgia Tech for the second time in his career. Chubb didn't want to be winless against the Yellow Jackets, so he returned for his senior season.

The rest his history.

Chubb is the only running back in school history to have two 80-yard runs for a touchdown - both were 83-yard runs.

Other notable 83s in the history of the Bulldogs…

Eli Maricich scored a touchdown on an 83-yard reception from John Rauch during Georgia’s 17-7 loss to Alabama on October 25, 1947 at Sanford Stadium in Athens.

Nick Chubb scored a touchdown on an 83-yard run during No. 9 Georgia’s 55-9 win over Charleston Southern on November 22, 2014 at Sanford Stadium in Athens.

Nick Chubb scored a touchdown on an 83-yard run during No. 8 Georgia’s 38-10 loss to No. 13 Alabama on October 3, 2015 at Sanford Stadium in Athens.
