3-star OL Austin Blaske Signs With Georgia
There’s always a Signing Day surprise, and the Bulldogs got one in three-star OL Austin Blaske.
After de-committing from N.C State on Tuesday, the in-state lineman out of South Effingham (GA) has announced that he has signed with Georgia.
The Bulldogs have signed 3 offensive lineman so far (Tate Ratledge/Devin Willock/Chad Lindberg) and have two more offensive line committed in Sedrick Van Pran and Broderick Jones.
With the surprise signing of Blaske, the Bulldogs have now signed 4 offensive linemen with two more guys still on the commit list.
So what will Blaske bring to Athens?
Depth and potential.
He’s got decent size at 6-foot-5 278-pounds, and he’s got time to put on even more size and muscle.
As a player, Blaske plays with a really good base and shows great lower body strength. He has strong hands and consistently drives the opposing defensive line to the ground. He’s a mauler in the run game and had an exceptional senior season this past fall.
He’s not the most athletic lineman, but he does move well for a guy his size. He plays with good leverage in pass protection, but he hasn’t played against great competition in his high school career. Blaske will need to develop more as a true pass protector and continue to develop the way he has over the last two years. He’s certainly an under-the-radar type of prospect, but there’s a lot to like about Blaske’s game.
Overall, it may not be a home-run signing, but Blaske is a good run-blocking lineman with lots of potential. He’s fundamentally sound, could play both tackle and guard, and he won’t be asked to play early. Blaske should have plenty of time to sit and develop before he goes against talented SEC defenders.
