D’Andre Swift: Not So Fast on the NFL

ATHENS - D’Andre Swift will make his decision on the NFL Draft after the Bulldogs play in the Sugar Bowl.

The junior running back said as much on social media after a reporter erroneously tweeted that Swift had declared for the NFL Draft on Tuesday.

“I have not made my decision yet,” Swift tweeted Tuesday, knocking down the notion that he had declared for the NFL. “I will decide after the bowl game!!!”

The news about Swift comes on a day where two UGA players, Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson, declared for the league. Insiders still expect Swift to depart from UGA after the bowl game, but official word will have to wait until Swift makes his final decision.

UGA coach Kirby Smart is scheduled to meet with reporters on Wednesday, and could update Swift’s status for the Sugar Bowl. A shoulder injury slowed him to only two carries in the SEC Championship Game against LSU.

Still, Swift has had a stellar junior season so far that saw him average over 100 yards a game in the regular season.

Swift came to Athens expected to play a lot his freshman season, but the unexpected return of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel in 2017 meant he was often used as a home-run hitting back. His late-game touchdown against Auburn in the 2017 SEC Championship Game sealed the Bulldogs first SEC title since 2005, and sent the program to only its second Rose Bowl Game in school history.
