ATHENS - As he walked out to be a captain the night of Georgia’s game with UMass, Monty Rice knew he wasn’t going to play. 

The rest of the stadium figured that out when he got to midfield with no pads on. It was a critical injury the Bulldogs couldn’t afford at the time. That became increasingly clear as the season closed. 

“He probably plays better in the games than he does in practices because he plays so hard, with such good effort. He’s a difference maker for us because we don’t have a ton of speed at the position.
