"Family Vibe" Means Everything to 5-star Linebacker

If you follow Georgia recruiting, you already know all about five-star linebacker Mekhail Sherman‍. The longtime Bulldog target is the 2nd-ranked outside linebacker prospect in the country and made his official visit to Athens this past weekend.

This was Sherman’s second visit to the Classic City this year and third visit overall. The 6-foot-3 235-pounder was in Athens in early March and told Dawg Post the “family feel” he got had the biggest impact on his visit.

It’s clear that message is still there.

“The family vibe is what makes Georgia special,” Sherman told Dawg Post after his official visit. “It drives my recruitment. The coaches stand out because they show you they’re real. As recruits, we are not naive. We all know that as soon as we step on any campus all the friendly faces are going to go away. However, the Georgia staff and coach Smart show love to the family and recruit. They know how to create great relationships and bonds.”

The Georgia staff signed an elite linebacker class in 2019, so they can be very specific on who they target in this 2020 cycle. It’s clear Sherman is the guy they are really pushing for and have been for a while.

The D.C native was seen talking with both five-star cornerback Kelee Ringo and five-star athlete Arik Gilbert prior to kickoff. The three were standing on the field, away from the other recruits and their families. Even the average Georgia fan who doesn’t follow recruiting could look at those three and tell that they were important prospects.

The Bulldogs were in Sherman’s top group heading into G-Day, and Dawg Post feels the reigning SEC East champions are still one of the team to beat heading into the summer. Sherman plans to take official visits to Ohio State, Florida, Tennessee, and LSU.
