ATHENS - The G-Day recruiting fireworks have come early for the Bulldogs. Four-star cornerback Jalen Kimber‍ committed to UGA on Wednesday morning.

“I’m excited to be a Bulldog,” Kimber told Dawg Post. “I chose Georgia because that’s where I felt the most comfortable. I took a lot of visits but Georgia always stood out to me and made me feel the most comfortable.”

The Georgia staff made the Mansfield Timberview (TX) defensive back a top priority since offering him on March 8th. Kimber visited Athens on March 28th, and that visit put the Bulldogs in a great spot moving forward. Earlier this week the staff got the news they wanted from Kimber.

“I told the staff on Sunday, and they were all excited,” Kimber said. “They wanted me to jump on board and help kick off the 2020 class. I think we can have the top class in the country.”

As a defensive-minded coach, Kirby Smart helped cornerbacks coach Charlton Warren in the recruitment of Kimber.

“They had a full plan for me on my last visit,” Kimber said. “They like that I’m a versatile player, and I can play both cornerback and nickel. They showed me how I can move around and make plays in their defensive scheme. I want to be a three-and-out guy, and I really liked the plan they had in place for me.”

The 6-foot-1 170-pounder admitted that he’s excited to work with Coach Warren in the future.

“Coach Warren is a technician like I am,” Kimber said. “He’s all about working on your craft, and I think he can make me a better player. Both he and Coach Smart made me a priority, and I just felt wanted there.”

Now that Kimber is on board, the four-star told Dawg Post he plans to put his recruiting hat on during G-Day and beyond.

“Now that I’m committed I’m ready to recruit,” Kimber said. “One guy I’ll be talking too is AJ Henning‍. I’m originally from Chicago, so we both go way back. He’s an incredible player.”

Kimber will be taking his official visit this weekend with his family and told Dawg Post he does not currently have any other official visits set up at this time.

Kimber is ranked as the No. 16 cornerback in the country and the 32nd-ranked overall prospect in Texas.
