Herschel Walker: "Georgia is RBU"
ATLANTA - Herschel Walker today confirmed something many people already know - Georgia is RBU.
“Georgia has become Running Back University,” Walker said of the running backs following in his footsteps to play in Silver Britches. “I am happy to see that.”
The 1980 national champion and 1982 Heisman Trophy Winner talked about how proud he is of the Patriots’ Sony Michel and the Rams’ Todd Gurley - the top backs for both Super Bowl teams… both former UGA backs.
“It means a great deal to have two running backs in the Super Bowl,” Walker told Dawg Post’s Matt
DeBary Thursday. “It is disappointing that one of them has to lose, but I told someone that it is an honor that they get a chance to play in the Super Bowl. This is the pinnacle of football. I am happy to see this.”
Although Walker and his teams made the playoffs often in his 12-year NFL career, he never experienced the feeling of playing in a Super Bowl.
The Heisman Trophy winner said that he’s not talked with Michel or Gurley leading up to the game, but added that he can’t wait to see what both backs have in store.
“I haven’t talked with them in the past week. The one thing I try to do is to let guys get into their zone because I think that’s what guys have to do. People know what Todd Gurley can do,” Walker said of the Rams’ back. “Sony Michel is an incredible running back. I am excited to see them do this. I want them to go out and perform. And I know they will because they have always performed on in big games.”
