Johnny Walker passed away today at the age of 85. My favorite wrestler.
I'm too ugly or something

He was awesome. Actually, I thought he had already passed away. Thanks for sharing.

My dad used to always take me to Columbus Municipal Auditorium (either Wed or Thurs night) to watch him vs. the Superstar, The Iron Sheik, and others. Got to watch the Natureboy Ric Flair vs. the American Dream, Dusty Rhodes also. All a part of Fred Ward promotions. Good times (brings back memories) and sad to hear this.

Tony Atlas, the Anderson Brothers (Olie, Arn, and forget the other one). Tommy Rich. I can go on and on.

Brings back great memories - and I 100% thought it was real when I was a kid.

Ric Flair used to have a good podcast all about wrestling. It was a hoot! He told a bunch of stories from back in the day. One story was about how much of a coke-head the Iron Sheik was! Said he'd snort it up right on the plane, in front of everybody, and almost got kicked off. Said Sheik would at times go into a venue and demand more money, and if he didn't get it, he'd just walk out...no show!
Flair talked about going to a nursing home to see Dick Slater in a wheelchair, barely able to communicate.
Pretty good stuff for old wrestling fans.
Not sure if it's back on or not.

Rubberman Walker and Tim Woods (Mr Wrestling #1)
I remember the match when they were rivals and the loser had to have his mask taken off.

Anyone remember the Torres Brothers?

Loved the old wrestling. Used to watch with my grandad, but he called it rasslin'. My favorite was Tommy "Wildfire" Rich. Loved the Von Erichs and JYD.

Dawgfactor21 and I had a few drinks with Jake The Snake Roberts at Jocks and Jills back in the day.

When I was in 4th grade, Steve O and Steve Kerns lived down the street. The day they moved JYD and Ted Dibiase helped them love. All of us kids got to meet them and get their autographs. Great day for a 10 year old.

Mr Wrestling II was my favorite as well as a kid and yep, thought it was real. That damn Superstar!

That was Jake the Snake, hell KLC - I just thought that was Just another a handsomely weathered stranger you were making a move on. You were quite the rascal back in the days.

Seriously though, weren't you working the night Sting and Lex Luger came into the sporting goods store (where we worked) and bought gym equipment for a gym they were opening? Found it funny they bought home equipment for an actual gym.

My dads best friend was the timekeeper in the Akron Armory, and one night he got his leg broken by Abdullah the Butcher. ATB came out of the ring in need of a chair to hit his opponent over the head with, and he knocked our friend to the floor for his. He was in a cast for a few months.

Good memories of Mr Wrestling #2. Sad day.

Remember all mentioned thus far. What about the announcer Gordon Solie? You guys remember him? He could be really funny in a dry sort of way. I recall him interviewing The Iron Shiek once and he answered Gordon's question in his native language. When he finished Gordon said something along the line of "Well, he certainly made his point...whatever it was."

RIP Mr Wrestling II.

Meant to mention Gordon Solie! Along with MWII the first person I think of when I think of Georgia Championship Wrestling.

Sic'em, the other Anderson was Gene. Ole and Gene were brothers and I believe that Arn was their cousin. Arn was named Marty Lundy from Rome if memory serves me correctly. I used to love the calls of the matches with Gordon Solie and the interviews Gordon did with the wrestlers. I met Abdullah at the Atlanta airport once, very well spoken and polite. A friend of mine told me later that Abdullah had a girlfriend in Rome that he would stay with when WCW came to Rome and that Abdullah had a MBA from Buffalo.

That dispels a lot of illusions! I sat on an airplane next to Paul Bearer once. He was always made up in white Face makeup and speaking in a ghostly voice. He sat down and looked at me and with a pronounced southern accent said "how ya doin'?"

That's his name. Thanks for sharing those stories. As a kid, they were larger than life. :-)

What a great thread! It brings back a ton of memories. My dad would take me to the Cobb County civic center to watch. We used to never miss wrestling. It broke my heart when I found out it wasn't real. JYD, MW #2, Tony Atlas, Bob Armstrong, Tommy Rich, Dusty Rhodes..... Man those were the days. Thanks for sharing.

I guess I'm the only one old enough to remember Gorgeous George. Or, 'the Friday Night Fights Are on the Air."
