Actually, Pope is a pretty damn good fall back position if Drew, Hurley, etc. fall through. A former UK player who won an NCAA title there (I think) and played much of his pro career with Denver under George Karl, a helluva coach. I met Pope when he was a grad assistant for Fox. Had several conversations with him about basketball: he knows his stuff. He made our defense much better when he was here. Super nice guy. He's had decent success at BYU, but obviously you can't recruit to BYU like you can to UK. He's won everywhere he's been. He doesn't have the baggage that a guy like Gillespie had. These goober UK fans need to give Mark a chance.... I can pretty much guarantee Pope is a better pure basketball coach than Cal, and UK pretty much recruits itself. Mark just has to get away from recruiting almost solely one and done guys like Cal was doing and build some year to year stability in the program.

Uh, yeah, I wondered why we didn't look at him when we executed Crean.

Me, too. However, he is a Mormon, so I figured he would stick in Utah, and he had that attachment to Fox.
