What We Are Hearing

ATHENS - A week later, Georgia’s loss at LSU is in the rearview mirror. But folks around the program say this was a time to get back to the basics in preparation for the critical two-week stretch that will determine the season.

“They can’t be babies - I’m not calling them babies, what I am saying is that they can’t become babies,” said one former college football player who works in NFL world referencing how many young players are on the team.

The entire season, of course, comes down to the game with the Gators on Saturday in Jacksonville. The Gators are surging, too. A mild effort against Vanderbilt produced a win last week in Nashville. But the Gators have recovered from a home loss to Kentucky to beat Tennessee, State and LSU along the way to get to arrive in Jacksonville at 6-1 and 4-1 in the league. They are ranked No. 9 - a far departure from where they thought they would be after losing to the Cats.

The Gators don’t control their own destiny, but most everyone I talked to agreed that this is the game for the division.

“You can’t let one game beat you twice. This is the entire season for them,” added another insider.

No question.

Several things came up when talking with folks about last weekend and what to expect moving forward. In particular two things stood out: the youth of the team and both QBs.
